Zara owner Inditex has hailed a strong start to summer trading.
The Spanish fashion giant, whose brands also include Pull & Bear and Massimo Dutti, said that its sales last month were 11.5 per cent higher than a year earlier as spring and summer collections ‘continue to be very well received’ by customers.
Inditex, which runs 5,456 stores, said sales over the three months to the end of April were up by 5.8 per cent to £7.5billion.
Shares rose 1.5 per cent in Madrid despite concerns that consumers will hold back on spending as war in the Middle East lifts inflation.
The update came as British retailer Debenhams, which changed its name from Boohoo last year, said its turnaround was gathering pace.
The fashion empire said its sales climbed 0.5 per cent in the three months to the end of May.
