LV to hand 250,000 members £100m bonus
LV is to hand a record £100million to 250,000 members – after the Daily Mail campaigned to prevent the mutual from falling into the hands of a US private equity predator.
The life insurance and pension firm’s mutual structure enables it to share profits with customers.
Its latest handout, the biggest ever, includes a one-off £80million related to the 2019 sale of its general insurance business. The bonus was announced as LV reported a profit of £63million for 2025, down from £80million a year earlier.
David Hynam, LV’s chief executive, said it had remained ‘resilient in the face of market shifts and external pressures’.
Sign of the times: LV is to hand a record £100m to 250,000 members
LV’s mutual structure was put under threat when former chief executive Mark Hartigan tried to sell it to US buyout firm Bain for £530million. The move was defeated in 2021 after a battle led by the Daily Mail.
