Police officer, 24, dies after being hit by car while on duty when responding to road
A police officer has died a week after being hit by a car while on duty and responding to a road crash.
PC Faizaan Najeeb, 24, had attended a single vehicle collision in the town of Raunds, Northamptonshire, at about 12.35pm on September 19.
He was hit by a blue VW Polo shortly after, while not in a vehicle himself at the time, leaving him with critical injuries.
The Northamptonshire Police officer was rushed to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, nearly 40 miles away.
But he has now sadly passed away, on Friday.
A man in his 20s who was arrested at the scene has been bailed pending further investigation.
The young officer had only been on the force for just over three years, joining in May 2022 to serve with the response team in the nearby town of Wellingborough.
His collar number P1967 will be retired in his memory, in line with tradition for officers who pass away while in the line of duty.

And a two-minute silence will be held in tribute to him at the force’s headquarters at Wootton Hall in Northampton, where a flag was flown at half-mast on Friday.
Tributes have also poured in on social media, including from several commenters who appear to have been colleagues of PC Najeeb.
One wrote on Facebook: ‘RIP Fuzz. Always a kind and funny person to be around and an amazing police officer.
‘You’ll be missed by everyone. PC1967.’
Another said: ‘One of the good ones! Wishing family all best wishes and my condolences in these sad times. Fozz, hope you’re at peace my friend.’
Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet said: ‘Words cannot describe the sadness felt when an officer loses his life serving in the line of duty.
‘The entire Northamptonshire Police family wish to pass on our deepest condolences to his family and friends at this truly awful point in time.
‘Colleagues from the serious collision investigation unit are still investigating the collision, and specialist family liaison officers will continue to support Faizaan’s family in the coming days and weeks.
‘We are also carrying out an internal health and safety investigation.’
Northampton’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, Danielle Stone, said: ‘I am so saddened to hear that one of our police officers, Faizaan Najeeb, has died after responding to an incident in the line of duty.
‘Faizaan’s death is a terrible reminder of the risks police officers face every day as they work to keep us all safe.
‘I am sending my deepest condolences to Faizaan’s family, at this dreadful and difficult time.
‘And I am thinking of Faizaan’s friends and Northamptonshire Police colleagues who are so hurt by his passing.
‘His loss will have such an impact on the force and my thoughts are with all of those who knew him.’
