Mistress of American Idol singer accused of murdering his wife was house sitting for her

Dayton Police Department Detective Zachary Farkas testified about interviewing Caleb Flynn’s mistress, Alleigha Botner, after the murder.

Farkas said police received a tip from Ashley’s aunt that led them to learn about Botner’s alleged involvement with Flynn.

‘We were able to locate Ms Botner at her mother’s house in Tipp City,’ he said, noting she was then taken in for an interview.

Botner was house-sitting for her pastor at a home in Vandalia the night of the murder, Farkas said.

Footage from neighbors shows she left the house around 6.30pm on February 15 and returned shortly after midnight on February 16, the night of the murder.

Cops were called to the Flynn house around 2.30am.

The lead pastor of the Christian Life Center church will be called to testify in Caleb Flynn’s murder trial.

Jordan Hansen is among the 172 witnesses the state of Ohio has indicated it will call to the stand during the two-week trial.

Flynn’s mistress Alleigha Botner was housesitting at Hansen’s $550,000 home in Vandalia, near Dayton, on the night of Ashley Flynn’s death.

Hansen owns the residence with his wife, Tara, who is also a face of the CLC church.

Botner was heavily involved in worship at the parish, Ashley’s sister Kayla Keyt revealed on the stand yesterday.

Both Botner and Hansen are expected to testify in Flynn’s trial. Tara Hansen is not named on the state’s witness list.

FBI Agent Deanron revealed that Ashley Flynn told a friend she suspected her husband was having an affair.

‘[The FBI interviewed] a friend of Ashley’s who had stated that she had confided in her about a potential infidelity,’ Deanron said.

FBI Agent Deanron testified that they believe the tool used to damage the door at the Flynn house was a hammer.

Deanron said the damage to the door did not match marks typically found in forced entries.

Investigators collected several tools from the home and tested a hammer they believe caused the damage.

However, on cross-examination, Deanron conceded she couldn’t say that it was the hammer that damaged the door and could not indicate who used the hammer.

FBI Agent Sarah Deanron explained that they knew Caleb Flynn’s mistress, Alleigha Botner, was lying during her interview because they had evidence to suggest she had a ‘contentious’ relationship with his wife, Ashley.

‘We had a text message that had been acquired from Ashley’s cellphone that had indicated that there was a contentious relationship between her and Ashley,’ Deanron said.

FBI Agent Sarah Deanron testified that Caleb Flynn’s mistress, Alleigha Botner, initially lied about her relationship with him.

‘Alleigha originally was not truthful during the initial portion of our interview,’ Deanron said.

‘However, during the course of our interview, Alleigha did describe the relationship with Caleb Flynn.’

On cross-examination, the agent was pressed about what the mistress was being untruthful about.

‘She denied having an intimate or sexual relationship with Caleb Flynn,’ Deanron said.

The FBI agent also revealed that Botner had a burner phone.

Ashley Flynn’s sister, Kayla Keyt, confirmed that Alleigha Botner had a ‘years-long affair’ with Caleb Flynn while he was married.

‘She went to our church, and I knew she was on the worship team with Caleb,’ Keyt said on the stand Tuesday.

Flynn’s lawyer, Pat Mulligan, first brought up the mistress’s name while cross-examining Keyt.

‘You had no idea of the affair he had with Alleigha?’ the lawyer asked.

‘No idea,’ Keyt said, adding that she only learned of the affair while she was being interviewed by police after Ashley died.

‘I could not fathom the thought that this would happen. Ashley and I trusted our husbands.’

Keyt claimed that when they told Flynn’s daughters about the affair, they were shocked.

She added that the 12-year-old was ‘not surprised’ to learn that Botner was the woman her father was having an affair with.

Lieutenant Jason Moore of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office testified that the Flynn home crime scene did not appear to be a forced entry.

Moore assisted with the interior search of the house and the garage, looking for the murder weapon.

He noted that he did not see any damage to the door and the scene did not look like the scene of an intruder.

‘I did not see any damage to the door itself on the exterior,’ Moore said.

‘I would expect to see some sort of damage. It was not what I would expect to see in a forced entry.’

Ashley Flynn’s parents took the stand on Tuesday.

Her mother, Jill Smith, revealed the chilling words Caleb Flynn told the couple’s young daughters after he allegedly killed their mother.

‘Someone broke into the house and hurt mommy, and she’s in heaven,’ Flynn said, according to Smith.

She said Ashley had a wholesome Galentine’s Day celebration with her daughters, ages 10 and 12, just hours before she was killed.

‘She wanted to have a special evening with the girls. She did facials, washed their hair, did their nails. She had special food for them, and they had a special night just for the three of them,’ she said.

Smith testified that the next day, February 16, Flynn called her and said, ‘She’s gone. Ashley is gone. Someone broke in, and they shot her.’

Ashley’s father testified that he did not immediately believe his son-in-law’s story after his daughter was killed.

Todd Smith said he was on a trip to Canada with his friends when his daughter died.

‘We loaded up and drove back. Longest ride of my life. I called Jill probably 100 times just to see what was going on. All I could think was that nothing in that story made sense to me,’ he said.

He said he did a Google search for ‘Can a Christian man snap and kill his wife?’

Ashley Flynn, 37, was shot and killed inside her Tipp City, Ohio, home on February 16, just days before her birthday.

The mother of two was a beloved teacher who was a graduate of Tippecanoe High School and Lee University and coached girls’ volleyball at Tippecanoe Middle School.

She also worked as a substitute teacher for Tipp City Schools and taught at LifeWise Academy, a nonprofit providing Bible-based lessons to public school students.

Her husband, 40-year-old Caleb Flynn, has been charged with her murder.

Prosecutors say the former American Idol contestant killed his wife after having a years-long affair.

Tipp City Police Department Detective Brad Klein was the first witness called to the stand on Wednesday.

He responded to the Flynn house in the early hours of February 16 and noted that many doors appeared to be kicked in.

When the prosecution asked whether the scene was consistent with other break-ins, he said no.

‘Because of where the debris was, it was all on the inside of the garage,’ Klein said.

Police removed the door to the garage and took it into evidence, then brought it into the courtroom for the jury to see.

The murder trial of Caleb Flynn has resumed.

Flynn, 40, is accused of shooting his 37-year-old wife, Ashley, inside their Tipp City, Ohio, home earlier this year.

He has pleaded not guilty and claims he was lying in his daughter’s bedroom when an intruder broke in and killed his wife.
