Former Premier League star jokes Stoke away ‘wasn’t so bad after all’ after being RUN
Former Tottenham and Everton winger Andros Townsend was bizarrely run over by a roller as he was warming up for a game in Thailand.
The ex-England man-turned pundit, 35, is plying his trade in the Far East, having joined PT Prachuap in the summer transfer window.
Over the break, he was in the United States covering the World Cup for ITV, and made headlines for some of his diet choices during the tournament.
Incredibly, though, on Saturday, he narrowly avoided serious injury when he found himself under a pitch roller while he warmed up at half-time.
Footage showed the driver of the roller struggling to control the vehicle, with Townsend kicking a ball away, not looking in that direction, and the crowd gasped.
The roller then hit Townsend, and he fell to the floor, with the roller literally going over his legs and lower body.

Incredibly, he walked away unharmed, and came on as a substitute late on in his side’s 3-0 win. He would later share a video of the incident to his Instagram page.
He joked on his Instagram story: ‘It turns out Stoke away wasn’t so bad after all. Swipe to see why.’
Another post described Townsend as ‘The King of Memes in Thai League history’ and he replied ‘trust me’ with four laughing emojis on his profile.
PT Prachuap – based in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, 150 miles south of Bangkok – appeared to have leaked Townsend’s arrival two weeks before he joined when they asked if anyone had a three-bedroom house available for the player to live in. They are the 17th club of his career.
Townsend made 29 appearances for Kanchanaburi Power last season, scoring three goals.
He has previously played for Spurs, Newcastle, Palace and Everton, and moved to Thailand after a short spell with Turkish side Antalyaspor.
Townsend making the move comes after he worked for ITV as a co-commentator during the World Cup.
The ex-England winger went viral at the tournament for his unconventional diet – which includes eating raw steak.
He released a slew of videos promoting his all-natural diet including the steak, sardines and boiled eggs on a plane.
Townsend’s aim was to stay healthy while staying in hotels throughout the tournament, while being denied access to cooking facilities and facing the constant temptation of fast food. ‘Never let your circumstances dictate your health,’ he says.
Townsend claims to have been eating raw meat for four years, dating back to his time when he was in the Premier League and would have had access to industry-leading dietary advice.
