Shania Twain, 60, is called out by fans for her ‘unrecognizable’ appearance at ACM

Shania Twain caused commotion among her fans after looking ‘unrecognizable’ at the star-studded 61st Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday.

The 60-year-old country superstar showed off a very taut face as she posed on the red carpet at the event in a sparkling silver gown and leather gloves.

The singer, known for smash hits like That Don’t Impress Me Much and You’re Still The One, highlighted her impossibly smooth visage with a touch of pink blush.

Her ageless appearance sparked shock among fans, with one writing on X, ‘She looks like a different person and not in a good way. She was a naturally beautiful woman. This doesn’t look like her at all!’ 

‘Who is that?’ someone else questioned, while another fan chimed in writing, ‘Doesn’t look anything like her.’

‘Christ it doesn’t even look like the same person!’

‘Literally wouldn’t know it was her. How does she not get freaked out when she looks in a mirror and doesn’t see herself????’ 

‘I hate to say this because I love her… but I do not recognize her.’

‘Omg.. That Don’t Impress Me Much..’ one fan quipped.

‘She has gone for the “I can’t even tell if my face is smiling look.”‘

‘Sad that women go to this extreme,’ someone else wrote. 

Another commentator compared her to two Hollywood stars who recently stepped out looking markedly different: ‘What is happening? First Jim Carrey, then John Trovolta and now her.’

Others praised Twain’s look but pointed out that she no longer looks ‘like herself.’

‘Oh girl I love your original beauty. You are beautiful but it’s not the original “you” now.’

‘Good work, but unfortunately she doesn’t look like herself.’  

‘Wtf?!? No way. That isn’t her right?’ another fan asked.

Twain hosted the event, which featured performances from Lainey Wilson, Blake Shelton, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert and more.

The Canadian singer–songwriter had all eyes on her svelte figure, and she kept the costume changes coming throughout the broadcast to spice things up.

Twain ultimately cycled through five different ensembles as country’s biggest stars gathered at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The superstar has maintained that she has never undergone plastic surgery.

While the singer has denied getting any tweaks, fans have often speculated over how the Grammy-award winner has maintained her youthful glow.

On the Making Space with Hoda Kotb podcast in January 2023, Twain said she had reached a point in her life where she decided not to undergo any cosmetic procedures.

‘Maybe that was probably part of what pushed me to go, “OK, it’s time to start loving yourself in your own skin,”‘ she said on the podcast, adding she was also worried that if she underwent surgery, it would look bad.

‘And then I think, “Well what if I’m one of those that doesn’t heal very well?”‘ She pointed out. ‘Then I’m gonna hate that about myself. Then I’m gonna regret doing it.’

‘It’s my perception of things that has to change instead of changing who I am and what I look like,’ she insisted on the episode.

The singer has previously shared the surprisingly simple tricks she uses to keep her skin looking youthful.

Her first tip is the most basic of all, per US Weekly: ‘I try to drink as much water as I can.’

For her second secret, Twain said she sticks to natural exfoliation: ‘I have always exfoliated. I don’t actually buy an exfoliator; I just make it. If I’m somewhere near the beach, I’ll use sand.’

She also revealed her third and fourth favorites: ‘I believe in old-fashioned things, like a bit of Vaseline. I always thought Bag Balm was the best of all things.’

In 2024, the Queen of Country hosted the People’s Choice Country Awards wearing a Barbie-inspired denim outfit and a blonde wig – with fans noticing a distinct and youthful difference from her previous appearances.

Dr Gary Motykie, a plastic surgeon-to-the-stars in Beverly Hills who has not treated Twain, told Daily Mail after viewing photographs that while Twain looked ‘great’ for her age, he saw several signs she may have had cosmetic enhancements.

He said that her lack of lines and ‘more open’ eyes suggested she may have had a brow lift, a procedure that involves making an incision behind the hairline to lift and tighten skin, smoothing wrinkles and reducing sagging.

He also suggested that her lack of wrinkles could be down to the use of Botox, and said her fuller face in earlier images suggested she had used filler.

He added that her dramatic costume made him suspect some work was done because celebrities can do this to ‘distract from’ cosmetic changes.

‘It’s an effective way to shift the focus and keep people speculating,’ he added.

In 2018, Shania underwent open-throat surgery to repair her vocal cords after their nerves were damaged by a Lyme disease infection.

The superstar said the illness left her unable to project her voice for seven years, and that she was ‘petrified’ about going under the knife to repair them.

Fans won’t have to wait much longer for Twain’s next era, as her upcoming seventh album, Little Miss Twain, is officially set to shake up the charts on July 24.
