Trump news recap: Matt Gaetz AG announcement sparks wild Republican responses

Donald Trump’s announcement he would nominate Matt Gaetz as his Attorney General caused an earthquake in the Republican Party on Wednesday.
Senators who will be part of the nominating process questioned whether the MAGA firebrand congressman would get the 50 votes needed to be confirmed, given the salacious allegations against him at the center of an ethics investigation.
The bombshell news came just hours after Trump met President Joe Biden at the White House for almost two hours.
The president-elect also confirmed that he would put forward former Democrat Tulsi Gabbard as the Director of National Intelligence.

Democrats call on Republicans to ‘stand up to Trump’ over ‘cataclysmic’ Matt Gaetz nomination
He (Gaetz) has openly called for the abolition of law enforcement agencies if they don’t get in line with conservative political priorities. This is going to be a red alert moment for American democracy.
Matt Gaetz is being nominated for one reason and one reason only. He will implement Donald Trump’s transition of the department of justice from an agency that stands up for all of us to an agency that is simply an arm of the White House designed to persecute and prosecute Trump’s political enemies.
Matt Gaetz is being nominated because he will be and is today a political agent of Donald Trump. The ramifications of this pick, this particular pick, are stunning and potentially cataclysmic for American democracy. I hope that some senate Republicans will see that.
Our founding fathers would be rolling over in their graves.
Donald Trump is telling with you the choice of Matt Gaetz that he is going to weaponize the Department of Justice and fold it into the White House. Maybe some minds will change now that they are seeing that reality in full view.

Breaking:Trump names Rep. Matt Gaetz his nominee for Attorney General
It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States.
Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice.
Few issues in America are more important than ending the partisan Weaponization of our Justice System.
Matt will end Weaponized Government, protect our Borders, dismantle Criminal Organizations and restore Americans’ badly-shattered Faith and Confidence in the Justice Department.
On the House Judiciary Committee, which performs oversight of DOJ, Matt played a key role in defeating the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, and exposing alarming and systemic Government Corruption and Weaponization.
He is a Champion for the Constitution and the Rule of Law
