Huge explosion at Pennsylvania plant injures three people

A massive explosion has erupted at an industrial refrigeration plant in Pennsylvania injuring three people.

The manufacturing facility possibly owned by Johnson Controls, is an industrial conglomerate that makes HVAC and security systems for buildings, Newsweek reported. 

The calamity took place on Tuesday morning around 7.30am at the plant located at 100 Cumberland Valley Ave in Waynesboro, near the state’s southern border with Maryland.

The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, and is still under investigation.

Two of the injured were airlifted to WellSpan York Hospital, and John Hopkins Bayview Burn Center, Mary Kay Seville, assistant director of the emergency services department told The Record Herald.

The third person was transported by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Maryland.

It is unclear the extent of their injuries at this time.  

Thirteen agencies responded to the scene, including EMS and fire, and two medical helicopters. The coroner’s office was also expected, as per the news outlet. 

Johnson Controls issued a statement that the ‘the safety and well-being of our employees is our top priority, and we are actively assessing the situation and working with local response teams.’

‘We will provide more information as appropriate as we learn more.’
